Tips to send mice packing

Are you tired of mice taking over your property? No one wants to find mouse droppings or chewed up snack bags in their house. So, how do you get rid of these little rodents?

Keep mice out of the house

If you have mice, then they're coming inside from somewhere. There could be gaps and cracks around your window and doors, near vents and utility pipes, or in the foundation. Ideally, the best solution is to seal up any areas in which the mice can get in with steel wool and caulking. (Don't use materials such as plastic, rubber, or wood, because mice can chew through these sealants). Weather-stripping can be helpful for the gaps around windows and doors. Mice can fit in some tiny spaces so this can be a difficult task. If you can't seal up every location, you'll need some additional avenues for fighting off these pests.

Deter mice the natural way

If you'd like a natural repellent, you can consider using 100% pure peppermint oil. Placing a few drops on cotton balls near where they are living can deter them. Just make sure to replace the cotton balls a couple of times a week since the smell can dissipate. Also, although this is arguably safer for your pets than poison, don't let your pets ingest the oil. You can also buy a ready-made product called Expel Natural Mice repellent. It's an effective product that contains peppermint oil, garlic oil, and cinnamon oil. Mice dislike all of these ingredients intensely.

Another way to keep these pests at bay is with the Pestaway Indoor Ultrasonic Pest Repeller. It's safe for children and pets and is designed to quickly and powerfully drive away not just mice, but mosquitos, ants, spiders, and cockroaches.

Removing mice with mousetraps

In addition, you could remove mice the traditional way with a mousetrap. There are a few different versions on the market. You can try to live-catch them. However, if you choose a live trap, you'll need to check it periodically, so a mouse doesn't end up dying of starvation. The standard mice traps are a quick way to control a mice infestation. It's non-toxic and the mice die instantly, instead of sending them back into your walls to die, rot, and smell. Peanut butter or cheese can be a good bait for these. Stay away from sticky traps. They are as inhumane as they get. The mouse runs onto it, sticks, and becomes terrified while it struggles to escape.

It can be frustrating when mice are overrunning your home, causing destruction, and leaving dirt behind. Send them packing with these tips.
